Dr. Elhaj serves as Senior Medical Director for LifeStance Midwest and Atlantic Divisions. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both adult psychiatry and addiction psychiatry. He earned his medical degree from Damascus University and completed his residency in general adult psychiatry at the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Medicine, where he served as chief resident. He also completed fellowships in addiction psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, where he also served as senior research fellow in therapeutics of bipolar mood disorders. Dr. Elhaj has served as co-principal investigator for several National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and industry-sponsored bipolar disorder studies and has presented throughout the country on mental health issues. He has published more than 30 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in national medical journals. He currently holds the position of clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and continues to be involved in teaching residents and fellows. He is a member of the American Medical Association, and the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Elhaj has more than 20 years of experience in providing care to people with complex clinical presentations. His specialty areas of interest include addiction disorders, depressive disorders, bipolar disorders, psychotic disorders, schizophrenia, cognitive disorders, dementia and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
